The Dog, the General and the Birds


The Dog, the General and the Birds is a 2003 film. Technique inspired by cut-out paper films, which gives a specific rendering.

A deliberately simplified, almost imperfect graphic (non-respect of proportions), which leaves room for poetry, dreams and metaphor.

To adapt the graphic universe of Sergeï Barkhin, the director Francis Nielsen opted for the technique of cut-out paper and for bright colors, sometimes unrealistic, which irresistibly evoke the brushstroke of Chagall.

The scenario is inspired by the life of the father of the Comtesse de Ségur.

There was a forest

From our first meeting, Luc Jacquet took us to the incredible world of trees... He wanted to hear the trees breathe, the way they communicate, the sap, etc...
To create this sound universe the Kyma was the ideal machine. Take an imprint of one sound and apply it to another.

In the following example, to simulate sap, my thinking went to a human body sound for the living side. The starting sound, a medical doppler, applies its sonic characteristics to a simple water sound.

Same thing with the sound of a machine driving the creaking of wood. Luc Jacquet kept talking about huge machines to define trees.

On the Marsupilami's trail


For this comedyAlain Chabat, it was necessary to create an imaginary sound universe,

Palombia.

The soundtrack is teeming with the sounds of wacky birds and insects that don't exist.

These sounds were created using the Kyma driven by a graphics tablet.


Also a little nod to Ben Burt ( Star Wars sound designer in particular ) with this sequence of the corporal trying to intimidate the Marsupilami with his laser stick.
